My BMW has a rough idle and sluggish (almost misfiring sounding) acceleration. This is the second round with this problem. It happened last month but lasted only 3 days and went away on its own. Now I am replacing the fuel filter (it appears it still has the original filter with 132,000 miles) and thought it needed to be done anyway.
Any thoughts?

Hey Kevin, thanks for the new thread, it helps to distinguish the problems so that all the people on the site can see. At 132k the issue might be the fuel pump, the E36 has a history of fuel pump issues and there could be one here. But first, lets try that filter like you said. Then we can move on from there.
