What causes low oil pressure and what kind of damage can it do? When I check the dip stick the oil goes over the full line what does this mean?

Its overfilled-Low oil pressure, Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, if normal replace the oil pressure switch. If abnormal could mean oil pump and engine bearing.

The car does run ruff and sometimes when I step on the gas pedal it hesitates. What causes oil low pressur and what damage can it do?
The dip stick has plenty of oil on it in fact it goes up over the full line. Could this mean the oil pump is not working properly and the oil is not getting into the engine like it should?

Have your car checked for a blown head gasket or intake gasket. If you didn't over fill it, then it might be antifreeze. If you take sjust short hops like a mile or less it may be gas. You can usually smell that onthe dipstick. If it is then drain the oil and change the oil filter then make sure to drive the car about 20 miles one way once a week. You can do serious damage to your engine if you let it go
