1996 Mitsubishi Legnum Cuts out when accelerating

Bought this car yesterday. Drove home fine. Today backed car out of driveway to take for a run and when in Drive the engine cuts out when you put your foot on accelerator. Idles ok but cannot drive forward. Help please.

Has the check engine light come on? Does the engine rev in neutral? Have you checked fuel pump pressure?

My car is a 1996 vr4 and is doing the exact same thing. I have taken to 3 different mechanics and not 1 of them could find what the problem is. Very frustrating.
