We tried a new actuator same result at one point pressed 4 hi and all the dash lights for the 4 wheel drive started blinking all 3 and kept doing it turned the key off they quit turn the key back on they would start flashing again all 3 until we disconnected the battery. Checked the tccm in the middle of the dash for broken or corroded wires all clean and tight 0 corrosion. Put it all back together hooked up the battery turned the key on cycled the key on and off 5 times as told to in another forum started it up and pushed 4 hi and it went there immediately heard the motor go on the tranfer case at the same time. Backed out of the garage but just back wheels would spin even though the dash had 4 hi lit up kept driving 20 mph went a mile and fuse blew while I was pushing the 2hi and 4 hi buttons no codes at anytime.

You have to have a short in either the connectors or one of the wires. Have you checked all of them for continunity?

Thanks I will try it on monday going to go through the vac lines too. Been really puzzling even have a new tccm coming on monday if it still will not work has to be bad ground or some wiring issue because at that point everything will be new ie encoder motor, tccm, front acuator. With a wrench you can shift the transfer case with little effort. But the front end still does not kick in. Most likely vacuum related pretty simple system otherwise wish the shifter was on the floor like my earlier s-15's never a moments grief. Thanks for your help.

I couldn't agree more. I won't get rid of my 93 dakota. It's a 5 speed the 4wd shifter is on the floor. There isn't much to go wrong. The wife is after me to sell it because it has 222K on it, but it still runs good, I drive it everyday, it plows my driveway just fine (infact everone's driveway on my street). I don't want anything newer.

As far as your problem, I really believe you are dealing with a vacuum issue. Let me know what you find and good luck.

I had a feeling that it would be something like that. Glad it's fixed, and hope you have a good holiday.

Let us know if you have questions in the future.
