96 Taurus air conditioner is blowing hot air

I have a 96 Ford Taurus w/350,000 miles 3.0 V6
The air conditioner starts out cold and within 5-10 minutes the air becomes hot. Freon has been added numerous times and this helps the problem for about a day. Then it blows hot air again.
A mechanic has replaced all the a/c hoses and o-rings - added freon again which makes the air conditioner work for about a day and then it blows hot air. The mechanic checked the hoses for leaks, they used dye and everything is fine. Someone told me it could be the compressor, but the mechanic doesn't seem to think it's the compressor. Need your help - love the car. Donation made.

GREAT - the air conditioner is finally working, thanks to your advice. When I brought the print out to the mechanic he shook his head and said - YUP, that's probably it. No probably about it - works great. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Anna

I tried to give you a positive feedback but the system keeps saying I am giving you more points than I have. You deserve a gold star and I am sorry I can not post a positive feedback for you. Thank you, Sincerely, Anna
