bonnet release problem

how can i release the bonnet on my ford mondeo td1.8 1996 model if the release handle is inoperable

Have you checked to see if it has come disconnected at the handle?

it hasnt disconnected at the handle i suspect it has come unattached under the bonnet

Chances are the cable has broken. What I have to recommend is to take the vehicle to an autobody shop. They will need to remove the grill or use special tools to access it.
