I have a Opel gearbox a F16 box I select it in gear turn the drive sharft and the main shart is jammed

I have removed my old one its damanged so I bought a second hand one if I select it in gear and turn drive shaft the main shaft that goes in your clutch does not turn what could the problem be?

It should be able to turn-could be an engagement sleeve or a synchronizer problem-

When gears are engaged, the clutch has to be depressed for the main shaft to turn, ie if the engine is not running.
