Hello,

I have a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe two-door. Originally it had a 350 5.7 L vortec engine, but it was swapped for a motor from a Monte Carlo SS Aero coupe. So they said. I have done a full tuneup on it so far spark plugs spark plug wires, cap and rotor all new sensors, fuel pump, fuel sending unit, spider injectors, fuel filter and fuel tank. All the parts I bought were for a 5.7 L Vortech engine and everything is running, but the car is very underpowered and he hesitates as soon as you get on the throttle there is like a dead spot just to accelerate a little bit, it dies out and then it Gains RPM and then it starts to go, but overall the car seems extremely underpowered. I believe it could be a ECU issue. The one thing that confuses me as well is everything on top is for a 5.7 L 350, it has a manifold fuel injection with the spider harness and has a upper and lower intake manifold. I am unsure what heads are installed but I did verify it is a 5.0L block. The car runs and drives other then being sluggish during acceleration and almost seems to die out when partially opening the throttle. I have P0102 mass air flow circuit low frequency and P1406 EGR valve position circuit severity. Could my issue just be with the ecu or vcm or do you think I have bigger issues

I would swap out the MAF sensor first, next I would check the catalytic converter for blockage. This guide can help

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-a-catalytic-converter

also, please go over this guide as well.

Also, I would make sure the ignition timing is correct. Check out the images (below). Let us know what you find.

Ok I did swap out the maf sensor, seemed like the problem got worse, I checked wiring per diagram no faults there. Also I forgot to mention the truck has headers and is straight piped with no catalytic converters and it only 3 o2 sensors. In the mean time I will go through the guide and also check timing.

Okay, it sounds like the timing is off. This would make the engine have little power, please let me know.
