My VW Jetta vr6

I am looking into gettin a 95 vw jettA vr6 for very cheap. The only problem is that it doesnt run it cranks just no start. I know on that make an model the ecu didnt work when wet or damp. The guy has put in a new fuel pump an filter but still nothing when you turn the key on I couldent hear the pump but the fuse is good. I also konw that the start position of the ignition went bad so he put a push start in it any ideas where I need to look next?
