I have a 1995 Subaru impreza with a 1.8L and it is missing in cylinder number 1 and can not find the problem. It is getting spark but no fire check engine light flickers on and off runs rough and no power. The check engine light doesn't stay on to have it diagnosed.

When trouble codes are present, the MIL need not be on to retrieve them. Intermittent flashing on and off could be due to a faulty ECU, ground circuits or wiring.

Check the compression, sparks plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and fuel injectors. Ensure there are o vacuum leaks at the manifold for # 1 cylinder.
