My low coolant light has been on for weeks but the coolant is full, now the car overheats. What can be possible reason for overheating?

Low coolant switch could be defective. Check and test the thermostat for the overheating -start here/other possibilities could be the radiator/water pump-blown headgasket, cracked head or block and intake manifold leak-

Where are you checking the coolant, in the recovery tank or the radiator, the sensor is in the radiator. Make sure the radiator is full.
