The other day I started my nissan maxima (manual transmission) in first (the e-brake was not on and it coasted forward and went over the curb. I backed up and I immediately heard a loud squeal and then a loud ticking sound. My son's friend who is a mechanic's helper says it is probably the crank bearings going that is causing the noise, My question is this: Could it be something out of place because the front of the car went over the curb?

I dont believe what you are describing could have anything to do with running over the curb, just an oddly timed coincidence. Your son's friend is probably right about the main or rod bearings.

It doesn't sound like a crank bearing. A crank bearing will create a knocking sound low in the engine.

Is it possible you bumped the belt when you wen over the curb causing it to be damaged, cause a squeal, then a damaged part of it slapping components under the hood?
