the car started sputtering as i went up the street and shut down i noticed a puddle of gas on the ground at the tail pipe

could be a bad pressure regulator or a stuck open injector. get it checked asap.

Also check for an excessive fuel pressure caused by a return line being clogged or defective FPR-Good luck and Merry Christmas
