Last night, started happening when I tried to accelerate above 65 mph, but only briefly. Problem stopped this morning and then occurred suddenly and severely this afternoon. Last tune-up was right before I bought the car, four months ago.

Sounds like someone dumped it while it was running right! The forums indicate the most likely cause for engine problems is a worn distributor bearing. Also only use genuine nissan ignition system parts. Iridium plugs seem to be best also.
