We have a ford thunderbird lx V6 the problem started suddenly, the car cut off on us on the highway it started back up and we took it to a mechanic he told us because there wasn't a engine light on or until it cuts off completely he couldn't probably diagnose it. He said it could be a fuel pump relay switch but he wasn't sure.

That is true if its running good now and no codes leading to a certain area of the car of a problem. Otherwise you would have to guess what's going on. You try wiggling wires around while its running butotherwise your grasping at straWS here.
