Removal

Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
If required, remove the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600). Refer to Section 03-12.
Disconnect the wire harness attachments to the voltage regulator. Pull the two connectors straight out.
Remove the drive belt (8620). Refer to Section 03-05 for procedure.
Remove the generator mounting bolts and remove the generator (GEN) (10346) from the mounting bracket.
Installation

Position the generator on the engine (6007).
Install the two generator attaching bolts, but do not tighten until the drive belt is tensioned.
Install the drive belt. Refer to Section 03-05 for procedure.
Connect the main wiring (14401) to the generator. Push the two connectors straight in.
If required, install the engine air cleaner. Refer to Section 03-12.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more for the powertrain control module to relearn the strategy.

Connect battery ground cable.
