1995 Chevy Van (G20) 5.7L Single Point TBI Two Wheel Drive Automatic 142000 miles

This van was purchased used. The van sat for a year, but it started fine and ran excellent during the test drive. After purchase it suddenly died less than 5 miles away from seller. I checked the battery and it was dead, so I replaced it, but the van didn't want to start, it seemed to have no fire. I gave it a tune up (plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, filters, and oil change). Now it has fire and wants to start, but it will not idle, and dies if I give it gas, unless I am pumping it. A friend ran diagnostic and it says (code 54) fuel pump circuit. I need to know how I should begin repairs with this circuit and where is the fuel pump relay located. I chose subject electrical because diagnostics said circuit, but could it be a fuel filter or pump? I am NO mechanic.I can do minor repairs myself. ANY insight will be helpful, Thank You.

Welcome to the forum. Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage. You can call and ask. As far as the relay, check under the hood, center firewall. The wiring colors at connector-- orange-- red-- gray-- dark green with white tracer-- black with white tracer. There maybe more than one possible location for that relay? Also, there should be a fuel pump test connector, close to battery, may be a red wire with electrical connector, nothing plugged into it. If you use a jumper wire with inline fuse, from battery voltage to connector, the pump should run, don't need to use the key.

I'm going to guess that this one can be considered closed.
