I just bought this 95 C3500 HD Diesel. It came without a muffler (just a straight pipe) is this harmful to the engine or performance? I'm shopping for a muffler now.

You really should have a muffler fitted, it will keep the noise down it is not as critical as a petrol engine but the engine has been designed to run with it.
