Loss of coolant

Got a vw golf that lost all its coolant in really cold weather, refilled and done about 15 miles and never lost any more
no signs of leaks and dipstick is clear of cream but some on the oil cap
anyone got any ideas?

Check the degas bottle(recovery tank) Most are plastic and tend to crack along seams. You can rent a cooling system pressure tester at Autozone, make sure the adapter for your make and model are in the kit! Pump it up to the psi recommended on your radiator cap, this will reveal where the leak is quickly.
