Starter stuck on wile engen runs

I replaced starter and relay under hood the engen runs with relay in but starter stuck . I un hooked relay engen will still start and run but why dose it stick when the relay is hooked up

If I start the truck the starter stays ingaged. It will also turnover with the key out of the ignition
how ever if I remove the starter relay in the box under the hood you can start the truc and it operates with the key. It willstart and run

Check and test the ignition switch-could also be the starter motor solenoid
