The car starts starts and runs fine, but if I turn it off and try to restart about 45 minutes later it doesn't crank and of course won't start. After it cools, another 20 minutes or so, it starts and runs normally. If I try to restart sooner, right away, after only 10 minutes, or whatever, it restarts and runs fine also. A simple example; If I drive it to the grocery store and and come back out to go home, it won't start immediately. But if I drive to a restaurant, sit down enjoy a meal and then get back in the car again, it starts.
A check of the codes indicates a failed crank position sensor, but it doesn't show any other symptoms of this problem that I read about. The part (Part Number: 22053AA020) is discontinued. I have not been able to locate a used one. I would love to find a clever work around.

Any, any suggestion short of giving up on my beautiful cult classic is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

To be honest, I don't see how it could be bypassed. The symptoms do sound like the sensor is failing due to heat.

Have you tried searching car-part.com? I understand why you don't want to get rid of it. They were great cars.

Let me know.

Thank you for responding Joe. I just sent a note to both, car-part. Com and carpart. Com. I will let you know how it goes. In the meantime I will continue to use the SVX for what our son calls going from point A to point A.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Kevin,

Let me know what happens. Honestly, I had one back in the 1990's and loved it, so I understand. LOL

If I am able to track anything down, I'll let you know.

Take care and Happy Thanksgiving,
Joe
