Car won't rev past 3000 RPMs and then makes a click noise and check engine light comes on

The car revs to about 3000 rpms and then there is a loud click sound that sounds like it's coming from the right side of the car. The rpms drop on their own and then the check engine light comes on for a moment and then shuts off.

Also, the car makes a squeel sound when it first starts and runs rough for about two minutes then idle's fine. Have replaced airfilter and starter and squeel is still there. Belt appears to be in good shape.

No turbo. Just a base model 3000gt
