ok i could really use some help. i have a 1994 f-150 with the 6cyl engine. the other day i went to move my car and when i tried to shut it off the key just spun backwards freely and nothing happened. i could turn it forward and get the starter to crank over but it wouldnt shut off. i killed the motor and disconnected the battery. the next day i went out and nothing happened when i turned the key. the key just swiveled with no resistance, the car wouldnt start there was no resistance from the starter, and when i reconnected the battery all the electrical turns on even when the key is out of the ignition. i tried replacing the ignition switch and the ignition cylinder but nothing seemed to work. i almost feel as though its something in the column because of how free the key moves but i don't know. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank john

This is how a '88 Ford F-150 works, my '77 Jeep CJ5 too.

I haven't messed with one as new as yours--I usually stick with my Jeeps

There is a rod from the Lock Cylinder down the column to the "Actual Switch".....either end may have come loose, or maybe just the "mounting bolts", worked loose to the switch

The switch itself may be bad...this was the case for my friends '88 F-150

I could have changed this without dropping the column down (a bit harder to do)---I did drop it just so that I could get these pics for my Jeep Fellers to see how it works.

See the Rod with the 90 degree bend, that fits into the switch???

Let me know if this helps

Meant to mention, the switch is adjustable (slides on the studs) as to be able to "Calibrate" it to the key's movement

I set this one to Accessories, then put the key in the Accessory position, then tightened it down.....sometimes you must "Tweak" the switch's slide adjustment, so that "Start" works correctly, and is not "Too Far" clockwise, to twist it with your fingers.....You will get the hang of it, once you understand how it works!
