Drill a pilot hole on the center of the plug and pull it out with a big screwdriver

If you are replacing, once the old one is out, you have two choices. You can replace it with an OEM steel type or a rubber one. If clearance is tight, I recommend the rubber type. Make sure the engine block is clean where the old one was. If you use a steel one, use a block of wood and hammar to tap the new one into place. If you use the rubber type, push it into place and tighten the nut on the outside. There is a large washer on the other end that will squeeze the rubber causing it to expand and tighten into place. I like them when there isn't enough clearance to work with a hammar.

A northstar only has freeze plugs in either end of the cylinder head, and accessing them in situ is next to impossible. Once you have determined that it is for sure the freeze plug leaking, you would almost be better off to pull the engine. I would suspect morer a crossover leaking, or head gasket itself, if the coolant sign is on or near the head(s)
