Left rear side of the transmission, right above the pan. Turn on the ignition switch, crawl underneath and unplug the three-wire connector, then jump the two outer terminals with a stretched-out cotter pin or paper clip. If you see a tiny spark, that proves current is flowing and the switch is bad. If you can't see that spark you'll have to crawl out and look if the backup lights are on.
