the car just stays in one gear

i can put it in drive and it just hums and wont change gear.what could be the problem?

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned. Also, make sure the trans fluid is clean and full.

put a new p sensor,modular has air,valves are not stuck,no check engine light,i did find a little metal stuck on the magnet on the p sensor,put the computer to scan,nothing.
