Have fitted new alternator but now can't get alternator drive belt back on. Not enough slack despite me loosening it off

Check the alternator pulley. Ensure they are the same size. Ensure the belt is of the correct specs.

If the size is correct, the belts having too little slack for installing means you need to slip it on by using a screw driver to pry it to wards pulley while turning the crank pulley.
