Started overheating changed thermostat still over heats when it overheats I felt of top hose but no water in hose

There is no coolant in the hose? Are you sure it isn't just low? Does it overheat when driving at highway speeds or just in traffic?

Reconfirm that the coolant is full. If the hose is empty, it doesn't sound like it is. Also, if there are no leaks, the water pump isn't making any noise, the thermostat is new, and the cooling fan is working properly, you may want to consider flushing the radiator. It could be partially plugged. If that is good, then I have to question a head gasket issue.
