Speedometer

I have a 1993 gmc fullsize (kingcab) pickup. The speed hand is not working. The cable is hooked up. Ive had this problem before but on a different vehicle. A friend of mine took the cable off the back of the speed guage an greased it and it worked.I have no idea how but it did. What should I look for or do in fixing the speed guage. THank you for your time

Our database didn't show a speedometer cable. It showed a vehicle speed sensor?

If you do have a cable, take it loose from tranny, turn in proper direction, see if anything froze-up? Could be a problem with speedo in tranny, where applicable.
