I am replacing the manual transmission in my 93 Escort. Can I make a 96 manual transmission Fit?

I am replacing the manual transmission in my 93 escort.I have a transmission from a 96 escort. The production date is 4/96. Both are manuals.I have heard that the 93 has a T-bolt shift linkage and the 96 has a straight bolt shift linkage. Can I install a 96 shifter in my 93 escort to make my 96 transmission work?

It would be a lot easier to find the right trans for the vehicle. You need to change everything including the shifter assembly. You will need to see if the axles are the same as well as the clutch assembly.
Like I said, I would hunt for the right transmission.

Thanks for the advice. I already have the 96 transmission and the clutch assembly and axles are interchangable with a 93. If all I have to do is change the shifter assembly it would save me a lot of money. Are there any other problems I might encounter? Thank you.
