1993 Citroen AX Engine replacement

Hi there, I have a 1993 Citroen AX 1.4D. The head gasket has gone and i'm having trouble sourcing another 1.4 engine. I was wondering if I could replace the engine with a 1.5D. Can it be done and is it a straight swap?

We only recommend replacing parts with direct fit ones. When you change size, year, model. There are always problems. So I would say no to this. However, why don't you just replace the head gasket?
