When starting the engine, when it's cold, a subtle knock can be heard but stops in 30-60 seconds and is not heard when the engine is warm. A friend with the same truck has heard the same knock for several years and has no significant problems. What could cause this and is there a simple and inexpensive fix?

Someo f those years had that problem it's an oil pressure thing and it doesn't really hurt it although it may seem to think that it will. If you use a filter with a check valve helps it but not a lot. I don't remember the filter number that was used to kind of fix it but just use a filter like napa, wix Purolator, bosch mainly.

Thank You! Another source told me it probably is play in the lifters from wear and shouldn't be a problem as long as oil pressure is good and that is the case with this truck. I don't know if it will make a difference but I will use Amsoil and an Amsoil filter after the next oil change. Thanks again for your help.
