Temp gauge not working at all

hi i have a 92 legacy that i just bought and my temp gauge is not working...wont budge, its just bottomed out...the car seems to run fine and the rest of my dash cluster is working but im kinda worried cuz i have no idea if the car is overheating alot and it gets really hot where i live so i know in town driving can be hard on a car...please help..im broke but dont want my car to crap out on me as well...thanks!!

remove the wire from the sender unit. it should peg one way or the other. if you ground it, then it should sweep the other way. that will confirm the wiring and dash unit is ok.

if this fails, then you have wiring and dash issues.
