Car quits running

Car runs good then quits sometimes starts immediatley other times I have to wait for it on highway it runs great ln town when I apply the brakes is when it quits I have checked vacum lines all were connected as far as I could tell was going to replace fuel filter but I have never replaced one like this one really not sure what to do now cant pay a mechanic I have to do it myself I can tear it apart and put it back together I cant diagnose

Doesnt sound like a fuel filter issue. So does the car ever stall out and you have to wait to start it?If so you need to check and see if there is spark when it doesnt start. If there is then you have to check the fuel pressure. Also you should replace the bottom coolant temp sensor and see how it runs. They go bad often and cause all kinds of issues including stalling. Also inspect the inside of its connector if the terminals are blue or green instead of silver you need a new connector also. The sensor you want to replace has two wires to it a yellow wire and a black wire. Let me know what you find.
