Why would both headlights stop working but one high beam works just fine?

A mechanic tied my headlights into my alarm/remote start system. He can't figure out what he did & no one else wants to touch it. The right headlight went dim. I replaced the bulb but that didn't help. Now neither headlight is working but my left high beam is. What would cause this?

It could be any number of things the first thing we need to do is see what were missing power or ground most likely missing ground. Because the head lights get ground thru the switch. So you plan on figuring this out yourself? If so do you have a multimeter?
