1992 Mercury Tracer Check engine light

I have a 1992 mercury tracer with a 1.9 ltr. Engine, I recently took a 250 mile trip, The check engine light came on about 10 times for about 10 seconds each time and when I arrived and put it in park the engine was racing with high rpm's just wondered what that could be ! Thank You

High idle is typically caused by a vacuum leak.

There will be a diagnostic fault code stored in the Engine Computer. That will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis.
