1992 Hyundai Excel won't start

My car broke down, it just stopped while I was driving and wouldn't start again. When it broke down I was driving across a bridge towards a hill.I replaced the distributer with a second-hand one. The car started but again broke down in the same place, just stopped and wouldn't start again.I called a mechanic and he said it would probably be the coil. Would this be the problem or could it be something else?

Those are basic stuffs to check for fuel and spark-Do you have a distributor where the sparkplug wires are connected to? If so its inside the distributor -get a repair manual for testing
