92 Ford Tempo overheating

92 ford tempo. Car overheats when idle but does not while driving highway. Fan does not turn on. Can smell antifreeze when outside of the car but no leak.I need my problem solved and fast. Please help

Power the fan motor from the battery if it comes on check the fan relay, coolant temperature sensor and computer
