I went to autozone and traded out the engine control computer on my 1992 cadillac deville. It was a remanufactured one. What would make the computer go bad I thought it was suppose to fry the fuse not the computer. That is why it would not start. Also the gas smells rich what can I do about that.

A short circuit somewhere within the computer -running rich:

Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1. Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line

2. Defective Oxygen Sensors.

3. Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.

4. Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.

5. Restricted air intake system.
