My 1991 Holden Commodore vn v6 is playing up. Engine erratically breaking down/running rough/ clouds of unburnt black exhaust when it does. Not all the time. Suspect ignition problem. Coil bank. Sensor. Wiring. Has had new computer a few yrs ago.

Running too rich, check. Vacuum line at feul pressure regulator if any gas is present, replace it, also O 2 sensors are beyond replacement age!

Often faulty coil packs and leads on these will cause this, but also check what merlin has suggested as well.
