Just to add to this one sounds like the fans are working where does it read 220 degrees on the temp gauge on the dash? Also what size engine do you have? Also do you have a multimeter to do some testing?Do you have a scan tool that reads live data so we can see what coolant temp sensor is reading? What about a infared temp gun to read surface temp?

The engine water temp is measured on the in-car digital guage and on an aftermarket radiator cap temp gauge made by Mr Gasket 2471S and they are very close. The motor is a 3800 series. I have "access" to scan tools to read from the 12 pin ALDL and a digital multimeter also. I stop the motor and manually start cooling the radiator with a jumper tool in the ALDL on pins A/B at 220 degrees to prevent damage to motor. I am also changing brands of CTS to a BWD z-series today, had previously used ones made by Factory Air.

At 226 degrees the fans should be running on high. So what colors are the wires going to the coolant temp sensor your changing? Also where is it located? Can the scan tool you have read live engine data like coolant temp on the screen of the scan tool.

Fixed ! After changing CTS on Saturday and a momentary distraction by a phone call I noted the temp gauge was reading 233 and concern for the motor was high. As I reached for the keys to once again shut down engine to prevent damage I hear the fans running and the motor has gone into cool down. Afterwards I allowed it to reach that temp again with fingers crossed hoping for same results and was not disappointed. Not exactly sure what fixed the problem, either the new CTS or the distraction or maybe the temp gauge switch has an incorrect resistance that caused the temp reading to be high on digital indicator, I just do not know. I may change gauge switch in the future or just not tempt fate and leave it all alone knowing that the CTS is now doing its job.
Thanks,

Sounds like it was the cts because it sounded like everything else was working good.I would also change the gauge sensor.
