Shifting problems

The automatic transmission will not shift out of first gear. It will shift into second above thirty mph when the overdrive is engaged, but still will not shift into third. It was working okay before a fluid change. This is my friend's truck and I was not present when he changed the fluid and filter. Everyone he has talked to so far says he needs a new or rebuilt transmission.

Make sure fluid is full. if fluid was dark brown or black when removed originally it is probably time for a rebuild. scan for codes see picture and it is a series for check engine light flashes normally 1 three times 2 three times is 12.

Also, the filter may not be tight against valve body or maybe leaking air due to two gaskets as original may not have come out. Picture shows wire grounding out to get codes on right fender well. fluid should be Dextron II or M-111atf or compatible. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I had this problem and had to have the transmission rebuilt cost me $1100.00
