Had what sounds like a spun bearing and found a another motor from a guy. Same block numbers ef 3235444 but the mount holes in the block don't match. Is there an adapter plate to mount older 4.2 in newer jeeps?

CALL IT A "258"!

JUST SOUNDS MANLY-ER

WHEN YOU START USING THAT LITER LINGO, SEEMS EVERYBODY HAS A 4.2,

OUR 4.2 IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER ONE

HOW OLD IS THE DONOR?

MAYBE I CAN HELP?

I DEAL WITH THE OLDER ONES MOSTLY

A FEW PICS OF MY STUFF? MINE IS CJ-5 IS A 1977, I BUILT A 1976 AMC HORNET ENGINE (A 258 W/ ORIGINAL METAL VALVE COVER) I BUILT THIS AS I GAINED MONEY/ PARTS, WHILE I CONTINUED TO DRIVE "MR. JEEP". WHEN COMPLETED, I DID A QUICK 6 HOUR SWAP. THE OIL PAN WAS THE ONLY THING I HAD TO KEEP, IT WAS DIFFERENT ON THE HORNET. THEN I CONTINUED TO DRIVE "MR. JEEP", BASICALLY, THERE WAS NO DOWN TIME!

CJs (THE "83" SERIES (CJ-5) AND "85" SERIES (CJ-7) SPANNED 1976-1986

CJ-5s BEGAN IN 1955, AND THE 232 AND 258 WERE INTRODUCED IN 1972

1987 WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE WRANGLER W/ SQUARE HEADLIGHTS, I THINK "THAT 258" WAS USED THRU 1990.

ARE YOU SURE THE ENGINE YOU HAVE IS NOT EARLIER? (I'M MORE OF A CJ KINDA GUY, NOT A LOT OF WRANGLER HANDS ON)

MAYBE THIS COULD HELP? THEY DO HAVE A MILITARY DISCOUNT (AND OTHERS), SHOULD YOU KNOW A VET WHO MIGHT ENTER HIS/ HER INFO.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure the motor is an earlier 258 now that I have done some research. Just have to decide if I rebuild the 90 or buy the conversion mounts for the older motor. Thanks again!

DOES THE DONOR ENGINE HAVE A PLASTIC (OEM) OR STAMPED METAL (OEM) VALVE COVER?

IF YOU WILL GO BACK UP THERE TO MY LAST LINK AND CLICK ON IT

THEN SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM

LOOK UNDER "JEEP RESOURCES" HEADING

AT THE BOTTOM, YOU WILL SEE "ONLINE REPAIR MANUALS"

CLICK IT, FILL IN THE BLANKS AND YOU WILL NOW BE ABLE TO SEE FACTORY MANUALS

THE CJs ARE PRETTY COMPLETE, OTHERS MAY BE TOO, SOME HAVE LITTLE INFO (LIKE SOME OF THE REALLY NEW STUFF)

THE FACTORY MANUALS ARE REALLY THE BEST YOU CAN USE. I HAVE A PAPER 1979 FACTORY MANUAL WHICH SOMEBODY AT THE STEALERSHIP MISTAKENLY LEFT IN THE 2nd CJ-5 THAT I BOUGHT IN 1983. I DID NOT TAKE CARE OF IT, AS I WAS AN AIRBORNE RANGER IN THE ARMY AND IT GOT TOSSED AROUND. I HAVE HAD TO DO SOME IRONING TO MAKE PARTS OF IT USABLE. I MAY BUY ME A REPRODUCTION TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER!

YOU CAN FULL SCREEN 'EM AND EVEN PRINT PAGES (HELPFUL WHEN THE COMPUTER IS ALL THE WAY IN THE HOUSE)

IF YOU'LL TAKE THE TIME AND A LITTLE EFFORT, THIS LINK WILL SAVE YOU SOME $$$. (AT THE END)

THIS ONE WILL TOO! "A124" IS STILL WORKING, READ MY METHODS ON HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE POWER
