Shifting problems I can’t go past 25 mph

I can’t go past 25 mph. In drive in my truck it sounds like the rpm's sky rocket after that. Can anyone help?

Good evening,

There is a governor on the drivers side of the transmission under a round cover toward the rear. It has a plastic gear that strips out and when it does the transmission will not shift.

How much does the part cost and would it be cheaper for a mechanic to do it instead of doing it myself?

I do not know your ability to make that call. It is a straight forward job.

The gear is about $10.00.
