1989 Ford Festiva engine makes a squeaking noise

1989 Ford Festiva mileage: 120,000. My car is making a screeching noise when I start it and until it, gets warmed up and I rev. The engine in the mornings. Does this sound like a belt problem? I have ordered the repair manual. Would this be something I can fix not knowing anything about cars?

Tightening the belt may fix your problem. However, if the belt has been slipping for a while, it probably has glazed the bottom side of the belt and if this is the case, the belt should be replaced.
