I have lost power on brakes fluids are fine , I do hear a hissing sound ( leaking air sound ) when I apply the brakes . I belioeve I will need a brake booster . Does this sound right or could there be more / less

You are on the right tract. Check the vaccum line that runs from the booster to the manifold first. If all is okay there is a way to test the booster. Before you start the car pump and hold the brakes. stat the car and the brake pedal should drop under the pressure of yiur foot.
