1988 Eldorado trans issues

I have a guy helping me with the car but the data link connector isnt working do u have any ideas on that

Is the check light turning on? Being an 88 I doubt that it has a trans that will be linked to the data system, what is the exact problem that you are having.

It shifts in to gear just fine but when in drive it wont shift into 2nd or 3rd not even if u manually and reverse works just fine

I feel it will be a mechanical problem with the transmission, may be a stuck shift valve in the valve body, this should be checked out by a trans tech first hand to get to the bottom of your problem.
