1987 Toyota Cressida sputtering and loss of power

I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the distributor cap and rotor, even checked the plugs and wires and still when I put it in gear it sputters and has extreme loss of power. After a little bit it catches or something and then runs smooth.

Is the fuel pump pressure within the manufacturer's specs? Has the check engine light come on?
