I have a 1987 f-150 with an manual standard transmission. The engine had sludge and I've tried cleaning the engine with an oil flush. I repeated the treatment 3 times. I really think it will take me more time to clean the engine that way. I've decided to swap the engine as a better option. I'm sure that trucks that have a manual transmissions are not too common. My question is, can I swap the engine from another truck that has an automatic transmission into my truck that has a manual standard transmission, or it can't be done? If you can answer my question I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

That's a question that you should address to the junkyard. They have interchange books that the rest of us don't have access to.

This is about the only way a sludge problem can be solved. Sludge is the one thing that is about impossible to resolve once it happens. Using those flush additives is about the worst thing you can do. The sludge will do the least damage if left right where it is. The solvents will loosen it up and cause large pieces to break off and they will get caught in oil passages and other places where they will do a lot of harm.
