I hope you guys can help, I have a 1986 CJ7 jeep with a T-5 trans and a Dana 30 transfer case. Unfortunately I'eve had to use it as my daily driver lately and on Fri. Of last week while on my way home it wouldn't go into 5th gear all other gears were fine. The next day I checked all the fluids all was ok, I started the jeep to take it for a test drive and now the reveres is having issues. It won't go into 5th gear and reveres is intermittent. What's going on? Please help!

THIS TRANNY IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN A GOOD OLE T-150......THIS MIGHT REQUIRE A TRANSMISSION SHOP TO FIX YOU

OTHER THAN A SUGGESTION OF A POSSIBLE WORN PART AT THE BOTTOM END OF THE SHIFTER

HOW DOES THE SHIFTER FEEL?

YOU MAY NOT NOTICE THE SLOP YOU MAY HAVE HAD FOR A LONG TIME

I'M SPEAKING OF PART #41 IN THE PIC AT THE BOTTOM (SLEEVE)

I'VE REPLACED THIS PART IN SEVERAL T-5s THAT HAVE HAD SHIFTING ISSUES, I'VE NEVER REBUILT A T-4 OR T-5, I'VE REPLACED SEALS AND SWAPPED OUT THE WHOLE TRANNY FOR FRIENDS OR THEIR FRIENDS

I'VE MAINLY DEALT WITH T-150s AND T-176s AS FAR AS INTERNALS GO

I TOOK PICS OF MINE WHEN I REBUILT IT A WHILE BACK.....YOU CAN SEE A FEW OF 'EM AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST (I TOOK OVER 100)

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1979-jeep-cj5-manual-transmission-pops-out-1st-gear

THIS PART I'M ABOUT TO HIT YOU WITH MAY ALSO AID YOU NOW AND LATER

I WANT YOU TO READ THIS POST.....AND "GO THERE" TOO, AS INSTRUCTED THIS OTHER FELLER. (AS YOU CAN SEE...HE NEVER GAVE ME AN UPDATE)

YOU WILL NEED TO SUBSTITUTE IN YOUR INFO........THEN GO TO "GEARBOXES"----"PAGE E9" WILL START TROUBLESHOOTING

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/automatic-transmission-full-time-4-wheel-drive

I SNAGGED MY PIC FROM THEIR CATALOG

RETURN TO THIS POST AND UPDATE ME ON PROGRESS

I HOPE I HAVE HELPED IN SOME WAY
